Difference between Real Marble and Artificial Marble
Real marble is a natural stone and artificial marble is not. But when you are building your home for the first time and looking to buy marble for flooring and walling, there are basically two options to select from – real marble and artificial marble.
The Debate: Real Vs Unreal
As mentioned, real marble is a natural stone, which is processed from marble rocks found at different locations on the planet. Yes, that is true. They are a piece of rock and their look, their strength, and all their physical and compositional characteristics are given by the nature.
But artificial marble is designed and produced in manufacturing units in almost each country in the world. As the name might suggest, artificial marble tiles and slabs looks exactly like marble. But they are not as hard and durable as real marble. Even though, they have some advantage over natural marble.
This blog will help you identify which is which and which one is better for your purpose. Check out the following subsections and pointers –
Real Marble –
- Real marble stone tiles and slabs are processed at quarries. No industrial processes are applied on marble to give it its signature look.
- The procedures performed at units are – cutting or slicing large stone blocks and polishing or honing them to have a smooth surface.
- If installed the right way and maintained well, marble flooring can last more than a lifetime.
- Marble requires careful cleaning, as it can absorb color from colored cleansing solutions. In addition, it must not be cleaned or washed with acids and vinegar or solutions that contain these chemicals.
- Marble is a premium material, as it enables a timeless elegance in your home. For that, it is one of the most expensive flooring and walling materials.
Artificial Marble –
- Artificial marble can be designed to imitate the look of different types of marble.
- Since they are manufactured, each artificial marble tile or slab (produced in one lot) has identical patterns. So, when you use these tiles on your flooring, you get same pattens all over your flooring. On the other hand, each natural marble tile has distinctive patterns.
- They require installation on a clean, solid, and level base.
- Artificial marble tiles are waterproof, non-porous, stain-resistant, and scratch-resistant. But real marble is not.
- It costs lower than real marble.
